Gold Coast Alternative Education Options

This page provides an overview of a range of alternative or complimentary education options that are available on the Gold Coast.

Homeschooling; An option that can work for families who would like to have greater flexibility and individualised learning for their children. On the Gold Coast there are communities that share care and teaching between a variety of families as well as those families that choose to provide all the teaching within their home by the parent. Toogoolawa School provides an education environment for children who have struggled due to learning difficulties and/or challenging behaviours in previous schools. The school has a very small community of students and is focused on core beliefs and learning objectives that strengthen identity and approach to life.

Silkwood Independent School provides an education that is based on Montessori principles

Providers of Alternative Learning Experiences: offer children a range of diverse learning experiences that can be part of an alternative education program or can be in addition to a school based education.

Kookaburra Eco School: uses mentors to guide children through an education that focuses on the bush and natural environment. Involves lots of physical activity and all learning is delivered outside. Contact details will be available shortly.

Crossing Divides is a Performing and Visual Arts program for young people who are impacted by Disability. Contact: Christian

Coastal Community Education Program run by the Gold Coast City Council teaches students and the community about the importance of caring for our coastal environments in an outdoor, hands on experience. Contact: Peta Williams 07 5552 8530

Big Picture Industries youth program that promotes “Image Literacy” programs that encourage positive visual communications and educates youth about the positives and potential negatives of our visual driven online society.
